AC withstand testing of 110 kV and 220 kV cables, transformers, GIS and transmission equipment, with modular reactors tuning to resonance from 30 to 300 Hz.
The HUAC-22/22-110kV/220kV is a variable frequency series resonant test system for AC withstand voltage and insulation tests on 110 kV and 220 kV power cables, transformers, GIS and transmission equipment in power plants, substations and high-voltage laboratories. It is built for the demands of extra-high-voltage testing under site conditions.
A variable frequency power source drives an excitation transformer and a stack of high-voltage reactors in series with the test object. The control unit sweeps the frequency between 30 and 300 Hz and calculates the resonant point automatically. At resonance the source only has to supply the circuit losses, so long, highly capacitive cable circuits at 110 kV and 220 kV can be tested without a large power-frequency test transformer.
The reactors are modular and can be connected in series for higher voltage or in parallel for higher current, matching the system to the voltage level and capacitance of each test object. The capacitive voltage divider measures the test voltage and also acts as compensation capacitance for low-capacitance objects.
For lower voltage classes, see the 10 kV, 35 kV and 75 kVA / 75 kV series resonant test systems.

A high-voltage cable circuit has a large capacitance and draws a high charging current at test voltage. In a resonant circuit the reactors supply that reactive power, so the power source only covers the losses. This makes on-site AC testing of long EHV cables practical with transportable equipment.
Yes. IEC 60840 (up to 150 kV) and IEC 62067 (above 150 kV) allow after-installation AC voltage tests on cable systems at frequencies from 20 to 300 Hz. The system finds the resonant frequency for each test object within its 30–300 Hz range.
The reactors are modular. Connect them in series to reach a higher test voltage, or in parallel to deliver more current for high-capacitance objects such as long cables. Send us the cable length, cross-section, test voltage and duration, and we will confirm the configuration.
Yes. Low-capacitance objects such as GIS or transformer windings may need extra capacitance to resonate within the frequency range; the voltage divider provides this compensation.
The control unit trips on overcurrent and on flashover of the test object, so a breakdown is detected and the output is switched off immediately.
