MODEL HUAC-ZK-III

Transformer Low-Voltage Short-Circuit Impedance Tester

Measures transformer short-circuit impedance at low voltage and compares it with the nameplate to detect winding deformation. Class 0.2, 5–400 V, 0.1–20 A.

  • Single-phase and three-phase power transformers
  • Class 0.2 voltage and current measurement
  • Fast, repeatable measurement
  • Direct comparison with nameplate impedance
  • Clear guidance on interpreting the deviation
  • Compact for field use
  • English user interface; English operating system available

Overview

The HUAC-ZK-III measures the low-voltage short-circuit impedance of single-phase and three-phase power transformers during factory acceptance, overhaul, preventive maintenance and handover tests.

Comparing the measured short-circuit impedance (%) with the nameplate or factory value reveals winding displacement or deformation caused by transport, installation or short-circuit currents in service. The test is quick, the result is easy to interpret, and the instrument is light enough for field work.

Frequently asked questions

What does short-circuit impedance show?

A change in the short-circuit impedance compared with the nameplate value means the winding geometry has changed, which points to displacement or deformation.

How do I interpret the result?

Within ±2 % the transformer is normal; between ±2 % and ±5 % it should be inspected periodically; beyond ±5 % it should be taken out of service and examined.

How does it relate to FRA?

Short-circuit impedance and frequency response analysis are complementary methods for winding deformation. See our winding deformation testers for FRA.
