Overview

The HUAC-BYKC-III tests the switching sequence and timing of transformer on-load tap changers (OLTCs). It measures transition time, transition waveform, transition resistance and three-phase synchronism, following DL/T 846.8.

Analysis is automatic: the instrument identifies faults in the waveform and marks them, and adjusts the resistance and time scales to the recorded data. Tests can be made with or without the windings connected, and continuous testing shortens transformer outages.

Frequently asked questions

Why test an OLTC?

The tap changer is the only moving part in the transformer circuit. Measuring the transition sequence, time and resistance finds worn contacts, broken transition resistors and timing faults before they cause a failure.

Do I need to disconnect the windings?

No. The tester works with or without the windings connected.

Which transformer connections are supported?

Y0, Y and Δ; for Δ transformers the three-phase synchronism is also displayed.
