Overview
The HUAC-JS-1000 measures the dissipation factor (tan δ) and capacitance of high-voltage power equipment such as transformers and capacitive voltage transformers (CVTs), on site in power plants and substations or in the laboratory.
It uses variable-frequency measurement at 45 / 55 Hz to stay accurate under strong electric-field interference. A built-in step-up transformer provides 0.5 to 10 kV in 500 V steps, so no external high-voltage source is needed. Normal and reverse connection cover both ungrounded and grounded test objects, and the C1 and C2 of CVTs can be measured.

Frequently asked questions
What does tan delta tell me?
The dissipation factor shows the dielectric losses in insulation. An increase compared with earlier measurements indicates moisture, contamination or ageing of the insulation.
Why variable frequency?
In substations, 50 Hz interference from live equipment disturbs measurements. Measuring at 45 and 55 Hz and combining the results removes the interference.
Can it test CVTs?
Yes. It measures the tan δ and capacitance of the main capacitors C1 and C2 of capacitive voltage transformers.
