AC withstand testing of 35 kV cables, transformers and switchgear, tuning to resonance anywhere from 30 to 300 Hz.
The HUAC-22/22-35kV is a variable frequency series resonant test system for AC withstand testing of 35 kV power cables, transformers, switchgear and other high-voltage equipment in substations, power plants and electrical laboratories.
A variable frequency power source drives an excitation transformer and a set of reactors connected in series with the test object. The control unit sweeps the frequency between 30 and 300 Hz until the reactor inductance resonates with the capacitance of the test object. At resonance the source only has to supply the circuit losses, so a compact power source can test highly capacitive loads such as long cable sections.
The multi-section reactors can be connected in series for higher test voltage or in parallel for higher test current, matching the system to each test object. The capacitive voltage divider measures the test voltage and also acts as compensation capacitance for objects with very low capacitance.

35 kV cables and large transformers draw a high charging current at test voltage. In a resonant circuit the reactors supply that reactive power, so the power source only covers the losses. A test that would need a very large power-frequency test transformer can be done with a system that is transported to site.
Yes. International cable standards such as IEC 60502-2 and IEC 60840 allow after-installation AC voltage tests at frequencies from 20 to 300 Hz. The system automatically finds the resonant frequency for each test object within its 30–300 Hz range.
Connect the reactor sections in series to reach a higher test voltage, or in parallel to deliver more test current to a high-capacitance object such as a long cable. We calculate the configuration for your test objects before delivery.
It depends on the cable capacitance per kilometre, the test voltage and the reactor configuration. Send us the cable length, cross-section and the required test voltage and duration, and we will confirm the configuration.
The control unit trips on overcurrent and on flashover of the test object, so a breakdown is detected and the output is switched off immediately.
