Overview

The HUAC-506D measures the capacity, no-load loss and load loss of distribution transformers and judges their energy efficiency class on site. It switches ranges internally, so voltage and current are measured over a wide range with simple wiring.

One unit carries out load tests at full rated current on distribution transformers up to 1000 kVA, and at one-third of rated current on transformers up to 3150 kVA, converting the result to rated-current load loss automatically. All results are corrected automatically. External voltage and current transformers extend the range further.

Frequently asked questions

Why measure transformer capacity on site?

To check that a distribution transformer really has the capacity on its nameplate, for example when receiving new units or auditing installed transformers.

Can it test transformers larger than 1000 kVA?

Yes. Up to 3150 kVA it tests at one-third of rated current and converts the result. With external VTs and CTs the range can be extended further.

Which efficiency classes can it judge?

It measures losses low enough to judge oil-immersed transformers down to class S22 (electrical steel) and SH25 (amorphous alloy), and dry-type transformers down to SCB18 and SCBH19, under the Chinese energy efficiency classification.
