Overview

The HUAC-2020 tests the on-load tap changers (OLTCs) of power transformers in substations and industrial plants. It measures transition time, transition waveform, transition resistance and three-phase synchronism, for preventive testing and fault diagnosis: poor contact, wear or open circuits in the tap changer mechanism show up clearly in the waveform.

A constant current source with four ranges, up to 9 A, gives accurate resistance measurement. Tests can be made with or without the windings connected. An embedded computer with an 800 × 480 colour touch screen controls the instrument, identifies single and double transition resistors automatically and marks faults such as open contacts on the waveform. Results are stored, printed on the built-in thermal printer and turned into Word reports with the PC software. The rugged, interference-resistant design suits harsh field conditions.

Frequently asked questions

What faults does an OLTC test find?

Poor contact, contact wear and open circuits in the tap changer mechanism, as well as wrong transition times and transition resistance values.

Do the windings have to be disconnected?

No. The HUAC-2020 tests with or without the windings connected.

Why a 9 A current source?

A higher test current gives a stronger, more stable signal on low transition resistances. Four current ranges cover transition resistances from 0.1 Ω to 100 Ω.
